United Kingdom and Turkey deepen military cooperation with multi-billion-pound Typhoon agreement

The United Kingdom and Turkey have strengthened their defense cooperation with a new agreement that provides for the training of Turkish pilots and technical personnel to operate Typhoon fighter jets. The arrangement builds on an arms deal worth £8 billion concluded in 2025. It includes the training of ten pilots and around 100 ground crew specialists in areas such as mechanics, avionics, weapons systems, and mission operations.

In addition to training, the program also covers the ongoing production of components, maintenance services, and the supply of spare parts, simulators, and electronic warfare systems. A significant portion of the aircraft will be manufactured in the UK, with around 330 companies involved in the supply chain. The project is expected to support approximately 20,000 skilled jobs nationwide, particularly in the aerospace and defense sectors.

Turkey’s procurement of Typhoon jets is set to enhance NATO’s operational capability, especially along its eastern flank. The agreement is considered a key step in implementing the broader deal and represents the UK’s largest fighter jet export in nearly two decades. It also highlights the economic importance of the defense industry, reinforces confidence in British aerospace technology, and deepens strategic cooperation between the two countries.
