Lebanon has withdrawn accreditation from the Iranian ambassador and declared him persona non grata. The Foreign Ministry ordered his departure by Sunday, citing violations by Tehran of diplomatic norms and established bilateral practices. In addition, Lebanon’s ambassador to Iran was recalled for consultations.
The decision comes amid a period of intense military escalation. Israel continues its air strikes on Lebanese territory and is advancing a ground offensive in the south. The latest violence was triggered by a cross-border attack by Hezbollah in early March, carried out in response to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Despite a ceasefire in place since November 2024, repeated violations have occurred.
According to Lebanese authorities, more than 1,000 people have been killed and several thousand injured since the latest attacks began. The situation in the country remains tense as fighting continues and diplomatic frictions between Beirut and Tehran intensify.
