A 25-year-old woman died in Spain following a court-related dispute over euthanasia. The woman, who had been paraplegic since a failed suicide attempt, underwent euthanasia after her father failed in a lengthy legal battle to prevent the procedure.
The case was considered the first to be brought before a Spanish court since the legalization of euthanasia in 2021. The law places Spain among the few countries where euthanasia is permitted and faces strong opposition, particularly from the Catholic Church.
The woman, identified as Noelia, died on Thursday shortly after 6 p.m. in a hospital in Sant Pere de Ribes in the region of Catalonia.
