Democrats Call for Special Prosecutor and Increase Pressure on Government Over Epstein Files

Two Democratic members of the U.S. Congress have expressed support for appointing a special prosecutor in connection with the so-called Epstein files. Jim McGovern backs the move, arguing that the administration appears to be disregarding the law by failing to release documents that Congress has voted to make public. He stated that he does not know the exact legal pathway to appoint a special prosecutor but suggested that members of the Judiciary Committee, including Jamie Raskin, would be better positioned to determine the next steps. McGovern also voiced the view that the administration is stalling in hopes the issue will fade, while emphasizing that it will not.

Robert Garcia also supports appointing a special prosecutor and called on Congress to use every available tool to force the release of the files. He accused Donald Trump of attempting to cover up the documents from the outset. Garcia further urged that Attorney General Pam Bondi be held in contempt of Congress and compelled to testify before lawmakers. In his view, Trump’s actions are intended to distract from the Epstein case. He stressed that the files should be released immediately.
