Massive Escalation During the April 6 Ultimatum Phase! After Attack on Iran’s Civil Nuclear Facilities

U.S. and Israeli forces attacked a nuclear facility in Iran on March 27, identified as a production site for so-called yellowcake, a raw material used in the production of nuclear fuel. According to the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, the facility was damaged, but no release of radioactive materials was detected. Yellowcake is considered harmful if inhaled, is insoluble in water, and melts at temperatures above 200 degrees. In parallel with the attack, the Iranian leadership immediately announced countermeasures and threatened targeted strikes against industrial facilities belonging to U.S. and Israeli actors in the region.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard called on employees of such companies to evacuate immediately and warned of impending retaliatory strikes against industrial plants, energy infrastructure, and allied businesses. Specifically mentioned were oil refineries, gas fields, petrochemical facilities, power plants, as well as logistics centers and military infrastructure. Residents in the vicinity of such facilities were also urged to evacuate. The threats target key supply and production structures whose disruption could have far-reaching economic and infrastructural consequences in the region and beyond.

In addition, Houthi rebels in Yemen announced their intention to support Iran militarily and, in the event of further escalation, to block shipping traffic in the Red Sea. The focus is on attacks against commercial vessels as well as the strategically important Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Suez Canal, through which a significant portion of global trade is conducted. A disruption of these routes would lead to delays in the movement of goods, rising transport costs, and significant disruptions to international supply chains, while the Houthis, according to their own statements, are preparing attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the surrounding region.
